Care & Cleaning Guide

Keep your custom outdoor cushions, performance fabrics, and foam inserts looking brand new year after year.

MAINTENANCE BEST PRACTICES

How to Protect Your Outdoor Investment

Cushion Corner® products are built with commercial-grade performance fabrics and high-density outdoor foams. While our materials are engineered to resist sun, water, and stains, simple routine maintenance ensures they remain clean, fresh, and comfortable for many years. Follow this guide to clean your fabrics and dry your foams properly.

Performance Fabric Care

Our fabrics (Sunbrella®, Tempotest®, Outdura®) are solution-dyed acrylics finished with stain-repellent coatings. They do not promote mildew, but mildew can grow on accumulated dirt if left uncleaned.

Routine Cleaning:

  • Brush off loose dirt and dust before it embeds.
  • Prepare a cleaning solution of 1/4 cup mild soap (like Woolite or Dawn) per gallon of lukewarm water.
  • Clean with a soft bristle brush or sponge.
  • Rinse thoroughly with fresh water to remove all soap residue.
  • Allow fabric to air dry completely outdoors.

Heavy Stains & Mildew:

  • Prepare a solution of 1 cup bleach, 1/4 cup mild soap, and 1 gallon water.
  • Spray or soak the fabric for 15 minutes.
  • Blot stains gently with a clean cloth or soft brush (do not scrub aggressively).
  • Rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
  • Air dry completely.

Foam Core & Insert Care

The way you care for your foam depends on whether you have dry-fast open-cell foam or standard polyurethane high-resiliency foam.

Reticulated (Fast-Dry) Foam:

Reticulated foam features large open cells that allow water and air to flow straight through. After a heavy rainfall, stand the cushions upright on their zipper seams. This allows gravity to pull the water down, allowing the cushion to dry in under 1-2 hours.

High-Resiliency (HR) Polyurethane:

HR foam is highly supportive but denser. It acts like a sponge if saturated. Protect HR foam cushions with custom-fitted protective covers or store them indoors/in shade boxes before heavy downpours.

Pro-Tip:

Never put cushion covers in a tumble dryer. Tumble drying can shrink the fabric or melt the protective coating, making covers impossible to reinstall.

Off-Season Storage Checklist

1. Clean & Dry

Thoroughly wash and air dry cushions before storing to prevent winter mold.

2. Store Flat

Do not store cushions compressed or stacked under heavy objects which can deform the foam shape.

3. Store Indoors

Keep cushions in a dry garage, garden shed, storage deck box, or custom furniture covers.

4. Pest Control

Ensure storage boxes are tightly sealed to protect soft fillings from squirrels and mice.
